The role of the department is to provide the state-of-art radiation therapy to all relevant patients, to educate and develop the expertise of radiation oncologists, radiation technologists, and medical physicists, and to lead new developments in radiation oncology in Japan as well as worldwide. All departmental activities are dedicated to patients with cancer. With a delay of as long as 1-year, linear accelerator for the hospital-based boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) was installed to the new facility, and neutron beam will come in the summer of 2015. The department will be fully involved in the development of BNCT.
